Lamenters Tactical Marine Test Models

It took a lot of testing to get this guy finished but here we are!

Primed white and then 3 coats of AK Volcanic Yellow to start. I base coated all the black and future metal stuff with VMC Black, the eyes and purity seals with AK Blood Red, pouches with VMC German Camo Pale Brown, grenades with VMC Light Green, and the left shoulder pad with VMA Pale Blue Gray.

Then I washed the whole thing in a 2/1 mix of GW Contrast Medium / GW Druchii Violet.

Yellow was highlighted with more Volcanic Yellow and then AK Deep Yellow.
Metal areas got a coat of VMetalA Duraluminium and a wash of Pro Acryl Brown.
Eyes had Blood Red reapplied and then AK Deep Deep Orange plus a dot of white.
Pouches and grenades were highlighted quickly with their base colors.
Black areas were highlighted with VMA Pale Blue Gray.

The left shoulder pad was done with VMC Black, Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White, and VMA Pale Blue Gray. The heart was done with AK Wine Red and Blood Red. I used this tutorial.

Number 1
Primed gray and base coated the entire model with VMC Pink. I highlighted the pink with a 50/50 mix of VMC Pink and Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White, and then a second highlight with pure white. Finally I used GW Iyanden Yellow to turn the pink into yellow. This didn't turn out well - the yellow is too orange and the contrast itself leaves a splotchy finish that I'm not a fan of.

Number 2
This second one was primed white and I used AK Volcanic Yellow, thinned out with water and matte medium. This looked great and I did a few detail base coats and washed it with 50/50 contrast medium and GW Druchii Violet before I realized that by thinning the yellow I hadn't actually gotten it to cover opaquely and the shade of yellow on the model wasn't actually AK Volcanic Yellow. Since I had already washed it I probably couldn't go back and get the yellow right so I decided to get out a third tester.

Number 3
This guy got the yellow right (3 coats!) but the purple wash was way too strong (about 1:1 with contrast medium).
