I've been tinkering with some rules for 6mm tanks on Battletech hex maps and then Battletech Aces released and suddenly I'm painting a lot of mechs again.
Aces is a solo campaign where you get to build a merc company which I love. I started by painting a Warhammer I already had to match the Rifleman from a few years ago. Then I thought I'd work on a red lance to go with them, keeping the white arm and leg, so I stripped some of my early contrast paint jobs and primed them red. And THEN I painted a Marauder black/gray with the white arm and leg and suddenly I'm working on three lances plus ordering more 6mm tanks.
Common Colors:
- White - This is the same color on all the models but the washes make it look a little different for each lance. VMA Pale Blue Gray, wash, reapply base, white
- Lasers - White, Contrast Striking Scorpion Green
- Lights and accessories - White, Contrast Iyanden Yellow
- Gun casings and accessories - VMA Anthracite Gray, wash, highlight
- Metals - Vallejo Metal Color Exhaust Manifold
Blue Lance
- Blue - VMC Medium Blue, wash, reapply base, VMC Andrea Blue (maybe I mixed this 50/50 with the base color?)
- Wash - GW Agrax Earthshade
- Canopy - AK Wine Red, AK Blood Red, AK Deep Orange, white
Black Lance
- Black/Gray - AK Ash Gray, wash, reapply base, mix base with VMA Pale Blue Gray
- Wash - 50/50 mix of VXC Black Lotus and a contrast medium
- Canopy - VMC Blue Violet, a mix with VMC Pink, the same pink, white
